Welcome to the IBM Lotus Live! SlideShare Demo

Requirements

  • Java JRE 1.5 or above

Getting Started

Click on the "Launch" link below to download and run the application. The SlideShare application is intended for use on mobile devices so the application is embedded in a simple emulator.

Launch the Lotus Live! SlideShare Application Demo 0.2

If you are upgrading to a new version of the demo, please uninstall the application. On Windows this means uninstall "SlideShare" from Add/Remove Programs. On Linux run "javaws -uninstall".

Logging in

After the splash screens, on your first time in the application you will be asked for credentials to proceed.

The credentials provided for this demo are:

  • Username: lotus
  • Password: lotus123

Hit the Login soft key on the right to validate your entered credentials with the service.

Your username and password will be saved for subsequent sessions and will be validated on the server when required.

TIP: When entering information into an input box, select the input box and hit Enter. This will change the screen and allow you to use your keyboard. Hit Accept when you are done typing. Normally since the intended targets are mobile devices, regular T9 input is required and this also works for this demo.

TIP: Softkeys are defined at the keys just under the screen, typically on the left and right of the navigation pad in the center.

TIP: If you wish to login as a different user or clean the saved information navigate to the ".microemulator" directory under your user directory (C:\Documents and Settings\_USERNAME_\.microemulator in Windows) and delete all files in that directory and restart the application.

Using the Application

The main screen has two drop down selections.

"I Am an Invitee" for participants of a conference that wish to join a conference in progress to view slides.

"I Am an Organizer" for users wishing to run a Conference with slides already uploaded to the service. Select which one you are and hit the right navigation key on your keyboard to expand your options.

Running a Conference

To run a conference you need to provide a conference name, which matches the conference name used when uploading your slides (for this demo use the conference name "IBM").

You can also invite other people in your online address book by selecting the "Invitees" input box and hitting Enter. This will transition you into a new screen where you can browse and search your contacts.

If you wish to search type values into the search bar at the top, hit the right navigation key to search for more results on the service. If you wish to browse for contacts on the service select the "Get More" button and hit the right navigation key to retrieve contacts from the service.

Select the contact you wish to invite and hit the right navigation key and you will be brought back to the main screen with the invitee field added to with your selection.

You can also add email addresses manually by using T9.

Note: If this was running on an actual mobile device, the native address book would be accessed but since we're running an emulator that isn't available in this demo.

You can also add any description text you wish in the Conference Description text area. Hit the "Start" softkey on the right when you are ready to start your Conference.

When you hit start the service will send an email to your invitees informing them of a starting conference and provide them a unique PIN code in order to access your conference.Your next screen will provide you details about your conference including:

  • Conference Name
  • PIN Code for Invitee Access
  • Conference Description
  • Organizer of the Conference
  • Invitee List
  • Number of Attendees currently in conference
  • Start Date of the Conference
  • Current Slide Number
  • Total Number of Slides

Hit the Enter softkey when you are ready to proceed to view the first slide. You can also hit the Back softkey to end the conference and return to the main screen.

When viewing slides as the organizer you can hit the left/right keys for previous/next slide respectively and all participants will have their slides changed appropriately.

You can end the slide show at any time by hitting the End softkey. This will end the slide show on your client and for all participants as well bringing the organizer and all participants back to the main screen. You also have a few viewing options while running the conference. Hitting the Options softkey will bring up a Menu to pick from.

Selecting the "View Details" option will allow you to see the details screen at any time. This is useful if you need to add a participant last minute or participants have lost the PIN code. All of the current participants will remain on the current slide while the organizer is viewing the details screen.

Selecting the "Rotate" option will put the slide viewer into Rotate Mode and will rotate the slide 90 degrees counter-clockwise. All other slides when navigating on this client will also be rotated. The rotation of slides being viewed on other clients will remain under the participant's control on whether to rotate or not.

Note: It is understood that rotation is useful for actual devices since the user can physically rotate the device but this demo emulator cannot be rotated. It is intended that most typical portrait phones will want to use Rotate mode to maximize the real estate for slide display and smart phones with landscape displays will want avoid Rotate mode for the same reason.

Viewing a Conference

When you wish to join a conference that is already in progress, simply enter the PIN code into the input box and hit the Enter softkey Your next screen will provide you details about the conference including:

  • Conference Name
  • PIN Code for Invitee Access
  • Conference Description
  • Organizer of the Conference
  • Invitee List
  • Number of Attendees currently in conference
  • Start Date of the Conference
  • Current Slide Number
  • Total Number of Slides

Hit the Enter softkey when you are ready to proceed to view the first slide. You can also hit the Back softkey to end the conference and return to the main screen.

When viewing slides as a participant you wait for the organizer to change the slide and your client will automatically change the slide on your client. Participants cannot change the current slide in a conference.

You can leave the slide show at any time by hitting the Leave softkey. This will end the slide show on your client, bringing you back to the main screen with all other participants and the organizer still in the conference. You also have a few viewing options while running the conference. Hitting the Options softkey will bring up a Menu to pick from.

Selecting the "View Details" option will allow you to see the details screen at any time. This is useful if you need to add a participant last minute or participants have lost the PIN code.
